DMU hosts National Space Day celebration

Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), Ministry of I&B Regional Office, Imphal celebrated the first National Space Day on the theme of Touching lives while touching the Moon-Indian Space Saga", at the central hall of Dhanamanjuri University (DMU), here, on Friday.
The celebration was attended by DMU former VC retired Prof Nongmaithem Rajmohon as chief guest and CBC RO Imphal director Dr Engam Pamei as president, while DM College of Science principal DR M Baneshwori Devi and Zoology Department head Prof Laishram Hemchandra Singh were present as guests of honour.
DMU Department of Electronics head Dr Laishram Raghumani Singh also attended the event as programme coordinator, while DM College of Science physics associate professor Dr Aheibam Keshwarjit Singh was the resource person.
In his address, N Rajmohon spoke about the speculation of presence of water on the moon, following detection Of aluminium, calcium, silicon, oxygen and sulphur on its surface.
He also said that Space X's prediction that humans would be able to set foot on Mars by 2050, would signal huge changes in space exploration.
Stating that the success of Chandrayaan has given immense hope to India, the former VC stressed the need for students to pursue additional subjects to their normal courses such as space maths and space biology so as to become 1IST and ISRO scientists and contribute to the development of the country.
Meanwhile, in commemoration of the National Space Day, 2024 celebration, National Institute of Technology, Manipur conducted an educational outreach programme at Huikap High School on Friday.
Attending the event as resource person, NIT associate professor Dr Sagolsem Lenin Singh conducted lecture-cum-interaction programme with the young students as well as teachers of the school.
Discussion on various technical aspects including soft landing technology, scientific findings and significance of the success of Chandryaan-3 mission marked the programme.
