Moirang, May 23 2025:
Central security forces blocked farmers from tilling their paddy lands on the western side of Thinungei in Bishnupur district today.
It is reported that around 30 farmers attempted to till their 80-pari paddy land (a local unit of measuring land) at Thinungei Maning High Canal Zone I, II, III and IV by taking tractors and other machinery.
When the farmers began tilling, Central forces stationed in the area asked for permits, halting their work.
Speaking to the media, Oinam Bobo, one of the farmers, stated that Central forces asked them to stop the agricultural work, citing a lack of necessary permits from relevant authorities.
He said that they met with the Bishnupur Additional District Magistrate (ADM) and Superintendent of Police (SP) to resolve the issue.
Saying that the ADM and SP assured the farmers they could resume work on Monday after the DC issues an order, he noted that authorities only allowed them 9-10 days to work last year.
