Imphal, February 23 2025:
Accusing the Government of India of pursuing covert policy detrimental to interest of Manipur and its people, Thawai Meerel Women's Wing convenor Paonam Sanahanbi has called upon the indigenous communities to take a united stand against the divisive policies and threat to the state's integrity.
As part of its campaign series under the slogan "Let's live together for our motherland", Thawai Meerel oganised a public meeting at Thamnapokpi Mayai Leikai under Lamlai AC in Imphal East district on Sunday.
Speaking on the occasion, Sanahanbi expressed concern over absence of unity among the indigenous communities, and added that the campaign was an initiative to foster unity, especially among those in the red zones.
She said that unity is essential to neutralise threats to the state and indigenous communities.
The current crisis is not just an ethnic clash between Meetei and Kuki, but a proxy war waged by the Government of India to exploit the resources, she alleged and urged all concerned to stop depicting it as a Meetei-Kuki clash.
"Today, the Government of India has imposed President's Rule and targeting the people of the state.
Mere agitations will not resolve the issue but it needs a united stand," she added.
A two-minute silence was observed in memory of those killed in the crisis.
Thawai Meerel team also provided mattresses and food items for the Meira Paibi members of Yaingangpokpi, Sabungkhok Khunou, Thamnapokpi and Sanasabi areas, who have been spending sleepless nights to keep vigil.
