Kakching, November 21 2024:
Several CSOs of Kakching have expressed outrage over the November 16 attack on Kakching MLA M Rameshwar's residence at Kakching Makha Lou, where protestors destroyed properties and assaulted the MLA, while clarifying that CSOs of Kakching had no hands in the incident.
The collective stance of the CSOs was expressed during a press conference organised by Kakching CSOs including All Kakching Clubs' Co-ordinating Committee Kakching, Kakching Keithel Apunba Ima Lup, Kakching Apunba Nupi Lup, All Kha Kanglei Students' Union (AKKSU) Kakching, Joint Non-Government Voluntary Organisation (JNGVO), Langsai Thouna Manipur, Kakching Bazar Business Welfare Association (KBBWA) and Volunteers' Co-ordinating Committee (VCC) at Ningthou Leikai, on Thursday.
Speaking on behalf of the CSOs JNGVO advisor Pukhrambam Samarendra expressed dismay over the attack on the residence of the MLA, clarifying that the CSOs were not involved in the incident.
At the same time, he called on the MLA to clarify his position regarding the ongoing crisis to the public as soon as possible and urged all CSOs to work together in unity.
Samarendra then condemned the ongoing attacks on Meeteis by armed Kuki militants, citing the latest incident involving the abduction and killing of six people, including three children and three women.
He mentioned that a candlelight vigil was held in front of Kakching Bazar Ibudhou Naohallai to protest these acts.
Following the vigil, an ultimatum was submitted to MLA Rameshwar and Wabagai MLA Dr Usham Deven, demanding their stance on the current crisis in Manipur.
The Kakching CSOs also strongly condemned the statement made by BJP MLA Paolienlal Haokip, claiming that the abduction and killing of the six people was in retaliation by the Kukis for the killing of a Hmar woman.
They asserted that the government should hold MLA Paolienlal accountable for his statement.
Functionaries of the aforementioned CSOs were also present at the media briefing.
