Imphal, March 21 2025: English Department of Dhanamanjuri University observed World Poetry Day on the theme of "Poetry as a bridge for peace and inclusion" at the multipurpose hall of DM College of Arts, here, on Friday.

During the observance, Sahitya Akademi awardee Yumlembam Ibomcha, Sahitya Akademi and Manipur State Literature awardees RK Bhubonsana, Dr Arambam Memchoubi, Moirangthem Borkeinya, and Birendrajit Naorem recited two each of their poems along with the English translations of the same.

In his speech as the chief guest, DMC Arts principal Prof S Lanchenba Meetei called upon the present generation to help in preservation of Manipuri literature, while DMU English Department head Dr RK Sang-sari Devi, who attended as the president, stressed the need for including Manipuri literature in the syllabi of English literature and translating the works to other languages.

The observance was also attended by undergraduate students from constituent colleges of DMU, post graduate students and research scholars.

World Poetry Day 2025 was also celebrated at Ipa Loyalakpa Ima Nungthelleima Eco-Tourism Park, Taobungkhok, Imphal West on Friday, where 35 poets from different parts of the state recited their poems.

The event, chaired by former convenor of the Manipur Advisory Board of Sahitya Akademi, Nongmaithem Kirankumar, was organised by well-wishers under the theme "Poetry as Bridge for Peace and Inclusion".

Organiser Phurailatpam Bedeshwor Sharma highlighted poetry's role in promoting peace and unity.
