'Puya Mei Thaba' observance slated for Jan 22

International Observation Committee of Puya Mei Thaba (ICOP) is all set to observe the 296th anniversary of the burning of ancient scriptures of Manipur called Puya on the 23rd day of Wakching month of Meetei calendar, January 22 .
Ahead of the observance function, the committee announced that this year's 'Chingmi-Tammi Nungshi Khudol Mana' will be presented to Dr Heera Kabui and 'Maichou Ningshing Mana' to Khangenbam Chaoba Angom.
This year, the observance function will be held at Kangla and at Lam Ahingba ground at Keinou Thongkha, Bishnupur district.
While 'Puya Mikonba' rituals as part of the observance will be held in front of Kangla Uttra, the main function will be held at Lam Ahingba ground, ICOP convener Moirangthem Naokhamba Meetei told media persons during a press conference at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen.
According to Moirangthem Naokhamba Meetei, the first ever commemoration of Puya Mei Thaba was organised by the Meetei National Front (MNF) in the year 1978 at Mongba Hanba in Imphal and the commemoration event continues unabated since then.
In the year 2011, hill leader late RV Mingthing formed ICOP and the Committee remembers Puya Mei Thaba every year without any break since then.
