Imphal, January 17 2025: College of Community Science (CCS), Central Agricultural University (Imphal), Tura, Meghalaya, in collaboration with ICAR-NINFET Kolkata, ICAR-CICR Nagpur, Deendayal Research Institute, and ICAR-CRIJAF Barrackpore, launched the official poster for the upcoming national symposium on "Threads of Heritage: Exploring Traditional Textiles and Natural Fibres" .

The event, scheduled from January 27 to 29, will take place at the College of Post-Graduate Studies in Agricultural Sciences, Umiam, Ri-Bhoi district, Meghalaya.

Informing this in a statement, CCS Tura, nodal officer (PRMM Cell) Dr Narmada Hidangmayum said that the symposium aims to explore India's textile heritage and the potential of natural fibres, with focus on Northeast India's resources like banana, pineapple, bamboo, and ramie fibres.

Highlighting the significance of the event, dean of CCS, Tura, Dr Jyoti Vastrad emphasised the cultural and economic importance of heritage textiles and their role in sustainability and global market opportunities.

The event featuring expert talks, live demonstrations, cultural exhibitions, and initiatives promoting skill development and zero-waste practices, seeks to unite researchers, artisans, and policy-makers to advance sustainable practices in the textile industry.

Participants are invited to contribute to the dialogue on leveraging natural fibres for eco-friendly innovations and economic growth.
