Imphal, January 15 2025:
Maintaining that erosion of one's culture and tradition will ultimately lead to the loss of identity regardless of the community's strength, Works minister Govindas Konthoujam has stressed the importance of protecting and promoting Manipuri culture, traditions and identity.
Speaking as chief guest of the closing function of the "Eikhoigi Khunnai Lon Khangminnasi" campaign held at JN Manipur Dance Academy auditorium, which was launched by Kanglei Lei-sha Phal on December 26 last year, Govindas opined that to fully understand the cultural heritage bestowed by the ancestors, it is essential to understand and analyse own language.
He cautioned that the erosion of one's culture and traditions ultimately results in the loss of their identity, leaving them as nothing more than a footnote in history.
The minister also pointed out the pivotal role of women in shaping society, asserting that only by empowering women can the society lay strong foundations for the future, a truth clearly reflected in history, while urging women to embrace this responsibility.
Minister Govindas also stated that contrary to the Meetei's failure to uphold "Pakhang Phal" and "Lei-sha Phal," the Kabuis have managed to preserve and continue the said traditions.
He also opined that the menace of drugs in society could be eradicated by reviving the practice of Leisha Phal and reconnecting with our cultural roots.
Presided over by Kanglei Leisha Phal president Sanatombi Mangang, the function was also attended by Lamlai MLA Khongbantabam Ibomcha as guest of honour.
