Poumai community celebrates Naga Independence Day

Poumai Naga community on Wednesday celebrated the 78th Naga Independence Day at Poumai Naga Union office in Senapati.
During his speech, RB Pani, president Poumai Naga Union (PNU), honoured AZ Phizo, the father of Naga nation, whose leadership led to the 78th Independence celebration.
The Poumai Naga leader also expressed optimism that unity will emerge from different factions in Naga land.
Later, he hoisted the Naga national flag.
In his keynote, RK Kaba, advisor PNU, urged all Poumai people to unite and look forward to brighter days ahead.
He stated that many people might perform wonders during difficult times and shine brighter than others in different fields, adding that Nagas are different people who desire to live separately, as Phizo had previously stated.
Rev Dr P James, executive secretary PNBA, led a special prayer for all the Naga patriots and leaders later in the event.
The congregation then sang We shall overcome" in unison.
Senior leaders, frontal organisation leaders, student leaders from the Poumai Naga community attended the event.
The 78th Naga Independence Day was also celebrated at Brig Sirohi Ground, Tumuyon Khullen, with RH Raising, member of the collective leadership GPRN, as special guest.
The United Naga Council, Naga Women's Union and All Naga Students' Association, Manipur organised the event with Naga People's Organisation as the host.
Solidarity messages from the Naga Hoho, Naga Mothers' Association, Naga Students' Federation, Naga People s Movement for Human Rights and Global Naga Forum were also read out during the event.
As part of the celebration, the national workers and the Senapati District Olympic Association, Manipur (SDOAM) played a friendly football match later that evening.
Shepoumaramth Region chairman Bovei Poukai noted that the friendly football match was organised to strengthen connections with civilians and national workers.
YK Achan, EO Maram-Thangal area, inaugurated the match by emphasising the need of coordination between SDOAM and national workers.
The match ended in a 3 -3 draw.
