Catch-up series on menstrual hygiene held

In continuation of the catch up series, Senapati district administration organised the fourth edition of the series on menstrual hygiene at DRDA conference hall, here on Wednesday.
Among others, Senapati district's assistant commissioner Sheveine briefed on the catch up series, which is an initiative of the district administration.
Highlighting importance of menstrual cycle, she further stated that Menstrual Hygiene day is observed every year on May 28 with this year's observance themed 'Together for a Period Friendly World' .
As resource persons of the fourth catch-up series, Adolescent Health Division, Senapati district nodal officer Dr S Agui RK said that a woman's menstrual health is crucial to her well-being as well as to the family and community.
She also said that menstrual hygiene continues to be amongst the most challenging issues today and noted that some reasons for social stigma-attached to menstrual hygiene in the Indian society are due to high rate of illiteracy especially in women, poverty, and lack of awareness on menstrual health and hygiene.
While speaking at the series, Dr S Agui presented the data of girls and women using hygienic method of protection as well as lack of adequate facilities for menstrual hygiene management in respect of Senapati district along with the state and country.
She later explained thoroughly on the menstruation process, physiology of menstruation and its cycle along with elaborating to the gathering on tracking period, Pre menstrual Syndrome (PMS), Menstrual Hygiene Management and tips to reduce menstrual cramps and mentioned about various schemes like Menstrual Hygiene Scheme (MHS) by MoHFW in 2011 under RKSK (AHD) and Chief Minister's Menstrual Hygiene Scheme (CMMHS) linking with School Fagathansi Mission which have been launched to promote menstrual hygiene among adolescent girls.
Sanitary pads were distributed to all the girls attending the series.
The programme was also attended by DLOs, school teachers and students.
