SFs attacked, bunkers dismantled, arms recovered

Imphal, August 11 2024:
Suspected Kuki militants launched an attack on security forces in an area under Bunglo village in Churachandpur district around 12.20am Sunday, resulting in an intense gunfight.
Later, security forces launched operation and dismantled several bunkers built by the militants.
According to a police report, on receiving input of presence of some armed Kuki militants in Bunglo village area near Khousabung, Churachandpur district adjacent to Bishnupur district, a team of 5 Sikh Regiment went to the area around 12.20am Sunday.
When the team reached Bunglo village, suspected Kuki militants fired several rounds on them which the team retaliated, including use of illumination light to identify positions of the militants.
On receiving news of the gunfight which lasted till 12.50 am, additional teams of central forces deployed in Kangathei area also arrived at the location.
After the gunfight ceased, the security forces conducted a search operation of Bunglo village and Khousabung area, but did not make any arrests or recovered weapons.
However, during the course of the operation, several Kuki bunkers built in Bunglo village next to Moirang Oksabung Leikai and Khoiru Leikai area of Bishnupur district were dismantled.
While no injuries were reported on the security forces side, it is not known if the Kuki militants suffered casualties or not, the report stated.
Security forces also conducted search operations at Monglham and Kamu villages under Imphal East district and Molnom village under Tengnoupal district on August 9 and Waithou Chingkhong under Thoubal district; Leingangtabi, Chandonpokpi and Mangjing under Bishnupur district and Taorem and Mongjam under Imphal East district on Saturday and recovered cache of arms and ammunition.
According to Manipur Police Control Room, the arms and ammunition seized in the operations included guns, live rounds, hand grenades, radio sets, mortar bombs, SLR magazines, INSAS magazine and other warlike store.
On the other hand, a combined team of Kakching district police and BSF carried out search operation in Pallel area from 6:16 am to 7:15 am on Sunday, but there were no report of arrest or arms recovery.
In another search operation conducted based on intelligence inputs about presence of arms and ammunition in Mongjam area of the Heingang Hill range, Imphal East, a joint team of Assam Rifles and Manipur Police launched search operation on August 10 which led to the recovery of a pistol, a single barrel gun (country made), eight grenades, ammunition and warlike stores.
The recovered items were handed over to Manipur Police, PRO IGAR (S) said in a release.
