Assam Rifles marks World Population Day with awareness programme

Assam Rifles organised a community awareness programme at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV), Umathel in Kakching district on Saturday to mark World Population Day.
According to a statement issued by IGAR (South), the programme, held under the theme "Gender Equality," aimed to promote awareness on gender equality, women's empowerment and shared family responsibilities as key factors in achieving sustainable population growth.
A total of 620 participants, including 575 students and 45 teachers, attended the programme.
During the event, Assam Rifles personnel highlighted the importance of ensuring equal opportunities for men and women in education, healthcare and employment.
They also stressed the need to improve maternal health, promote family planning, strengthen girls' education and eliminate gender-based discrimination.
Moving beyond theoretical instruction, the participants were also given practical demonstrations on essential lifesaving skills, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), basic first aid and blood pressure monitoring.
An interactive session encouraged students and teachers to discuss challenges to gender equality and suggest measures to promote inclusivity and mutual respect.
The programme concluded with a collective pledge by the community to champion dignity and equal rights to build progressive, healthier family.
