Foundation laid for Leimarembi statue in Cachar

The foundation stone for the statue of Leimarembi Induprabha was laid on Monday at the South Barak Rural Development Complex at Binakandi Part II, Cachar.
The foundation ceremony, organised by Leimarembi Induprabha Statue Installation Committee, Binakandi, was attended by Ngangbam Ramnarayan of Binakandi Part II, Oinam Biramani of Lakhipur Khunou and Nameirakpam Budhachandra of Jiribam as presidium members.
Speaking at the event, Athouba Shing Gee Liklam Thiba Lup Manipur president Nando Tekcham quoted historians' account that after Leimarembi Induprabha, the daughter of King Modhuchan-dra of Manipur, married the King of Cachar in 1802, she endeavoured to unite the scattered antecedents of Kings of Manipur and the Meeteis.

"This effort played a significant role in fighting the Burmese during the Seven Years' Devastation," he recounted, yet lamented that her contribution during such a critical period is not aware to the present generation.
He also noted that Induprabha's beauty was so remarkable that the British compared her to the rising Sun and the Moon, adding that "her legacy was not limited to her beauty; she was also renowned for her foresight, sense of nationalism and deep love for her motherland" .
He disclosed that the construction of the statue is aimed at inspiring the present generation to follow her example, fostering greater love for the nation and elevating its status.
This statue of Induprabha will be the first of its kind in both Manipur and Cachar, Assam.
