Annual meeting held, books released

Imphal, June 08 2024:
Writers' Forum, Imphal held its 36th special general body meeting at Manipur Press dub, here, on Saturday.
During the meeting, Keisam Priyokumar and Moirangthem Notilal were elected as president and secretary respectively for the term 2024-26.The meeting also adopted resolutions for urging the central government to recognise Manipuri as a classical language, setting up a complex for authors and urging the state government to award grants to literature bodies which are more than 25 years old.
Later, a two-minute silence was observed in honour of all those who have died during the ongoing conflict in the state.
This was followed by releasing of the 124th edition of the Forum's journal 'Sahitya gi Pao', and the English version of Lamabam Kamal's novel, titled 'Madhavi', translated by Chongtham Rita Devi.
A poetry recitation segment moderated by Yumlembam Ibomcha was also organised.
On the other hand, the English version of Oinam Kuber's book, "Punshigi Pakhong Phongshi Lao", translated by Kangjam Radhakumar under the title "Come, Let us solve the riddles of life", was released in a function organised by Ashangba Communication at DIPR auditorium, Nityaipat Chuthek, here, on Saturday.
The book releasing function was attended by Langthabal MLA Karam Shyam as chief guest, Manipur Sahitya Parishad Imphal president Longjam Joychandra as president while Imphal Municipal Corporation ex-councillor Radhamani and Manipur Cultural Organisation president Kangjam Radhakumar were present as guests of honour.
