Manipur University organises NSS orientation programme

Manipur University hosted a one-day NSS orientation programme at the court hall on Saturday as part of the Swachhata (Cleanliness) Programme.
The National Service Scheme (NSS) Cell of Manipur University organised the programme to promote NSS activities and strengthen collaboration among NSS Programme Officers.

NSS Cell programme coordinator Dr Laishram Santosh attended the inaugural ceremony as chief guest and president respectively.
NSS NER, Guwahati, senior youth officer Nakul Chandra Deori, and NYKS state director L Mar-jitkumar were also present at the event as guests of honour.
In his welcome address, Dr Laishram Santosh highlighted the importance of the event in promoting NSS activities and fostering collaboration among NSS programme officers.
He also emphasised the significance of the Swachhata Programme, focusing on cleanliness, sanitation, and hygiene as essential for a healthy life and environment.
Nakul Chandra Deori spoke on the role of NSS in educational institutions, stressing the importance of integrating NSS activities across schools, colleges, and universities to cultivate responsibility and service in students.
L Marjitkumar discussed the partnership between NYKS and NSS, introducing the MyBharat Portal and the need for NSS volunteers and officers to register on the platform, enhancing their alignment with national youth programmes.
Prof N Lokendra spoke on the transformative power of NSS in shaping students' personalities through community service.
He emphasised NSS as a core curricular activity in higher education and encouraged the establishment of NSS units in more colleges, including private institutions.
The inaugural function was followed by technical sessions.
The first session was led by Nakul Chandra Deori, who presented the 'Basic Design and Programme Structure of NSS', offering a comprehensive understanding of the NSS framework.
Former NSS programme coordinator and director of IQAC, MU, Prof A Rajmani Singha conducted the second session on 'Life Skills', underscoring their importance in personal and professional development.
The final session, delivered by former NSS programme coordinator and head of library and information science, Prof Ch Ibohal focused bn 'Empowering Students and Youth: The NSS Way'.
He discussed how NSS nurtures leadership, teamwork, and a spirit of service in youth.
The day concluded with a valedictory ceremony, where certificates were awarded to the participants, recognis ing their active involvement and commitment to the NSS mission.
