Imphal, July 05 2024:
The undergraduate students of various constituent colleges of Dhanamanjuri University (DMU) have resolved to launch agitation until a regular vice chancellor and a registrar of the university are appointed.
Addressing a press meet convened by the aggrieved undergraduate students at DM College of Arts on Friday, LMS Law College 4th semester student Yumnam Clinton Mangang pointed out despite DMU recognised as a university six years ago, grievances of the students have not been heard till date.
The university seems to be authority-less and despite various student protests, the authorities concerned continue to act ignorant on the same.
He continued that the current VC and the registrar of the university are in-charges.
On top of this, the VC in-charge Gyan Prakash is also special secretary (home), while registrar in-charge Nivedita Lairenlakpam is the director of the Transport Department.
As such, they are unable to pay attention to the university, he said, adding that the university has no regular staff till now.
Clinton then said that the present state of the university has heavily affected the education and career of students, with delay in declaring semester exam results and conducting examinations becoming a norm rather than an exception.
Thus, the undergraduate students studying in constituent colleges held a meeting and adopted a resolution to launch agitations until a regular VC and a registrar of the university are appointed, he added.
