Two held in Cl XII exam question leak case

Two teachers allegedly involved in the leakage of physics question paper for class XII examination being conducted by the Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur (COHSEM) have been arrested by the police.
The two, identified as Maibam Sunil Singh (33), son of Ibomcha of Rio Nepra Company Makha Leikai, and Ningombam Jagdish (33), son of Bidyaswar of Thoubal Okram, are teachers of Paradise English School, Thoubal.
Sunil, who is also officer in-charge of the exam centre, reportedly runs a private hostel.
Both Sunil and Jagdish were paraded before the media at the office of SP (cybercrime) on Tuesday wherein SP Ningombam John said Cyber-crime police station received a report from COHSEM controller of examinations on March 3 about circulation of a photo copy of physics question paper for the ongoing class XII examination on social media.
Based on the report, Cyber-crime police station registered a case and launched investigation and questioned several individuals, consequently leading to identification of Sunil as the source of the leakage.
He was rounded up on the same day the question paper was leaked, said the SP, adding that a mobile phone was also recovered from Sunil's possession.
Further investigation led to the arrest of Ningombam Jagdish, also involved in the leakage, on Tuesday afternoon, John said, According to the officer, the government of Manipur issued a gazette notification on 'Prevention of Malpractices in High School Leaving Certificate and Higher Secondary Examination Act, 2024' to curb exam-related malpractices in the state.
The law sets stringent measures to ensure fair conduct of examinations and stringent punishment for those found involved in malpractices during examinations, John said adding that Manipur police are conducting a fair investigation to punish violators and prevent such crimes.
Meanwhile, both Sunil and Jagdish were produced before a court on Tuesday which remanded both to four days under police custody for further questioning.
