MLA Joykisan eyes upgrade of drains by 2025

BJP Thangmeiband Mandal on Sunday has begun utilising heavy machinery to clean the garbage accumulated in the drains of Thangal Bazar area, owing to the recent floods.
Speaking to newspersons in this regard, Thangmeiband MLA Kh Joykisan acknowledged that the recent flood was one of the worst floods to hit the state in the last 50 years.
As the water has receded, the Mandal members decided to cleanse the clogged drains.
The first area to be cleansed is Thangal Bazar, followed by other areas of the constituency, for which the local booth members have been informed.
The cleansing works will be completed before the monsoon season, he added.
The MLA continued that Thangmeiband AC often experience waterlogging during monsoon season due to lack of either absence of proper drainage system or clogging of the same.
As such, after consulting with the chief minister, efforts are being made to drain the flood water.
Once the Lamphelpat rejuvenation project is completed, the water will drain away naturally.
Nonetheless, a plan is being formulated for a long-term solution to prevent the flood-situation every year, he conveyed.
Informing that efforts are also being made to upgrade all drains in Thangmeiband constituency with construction of pucca drains by 2025, Joykisan said that preparations are underway to assist those affected by the floods and to prevent the occurrence of water-borne diseases.
Presently, some areas of Khoyathong, Thangal Bazar and DM university campus are still inundated.
The flood water in Khoyathong area is being pump out and other areas will soon follow suit, the MLA added.
