GIS mapping launched to monitor health care facilities

Imphal, June 30 2025:
To strengthen the monitoring of healthcare facilities in Imphal East and Imphal West, Health Services director Dr Chambo Gonmei launched the Geographical Information System (GIS) Mapping on Monday.
As part of the initiative, diagnostic equipment was also distributed to the Medical Officers (MOs) of Urban Public Health Centres - Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (UPHC-AAM), including JNIMS .
The GIS mapping was launched by the director during a function jointly organised by National Urban Health Mission NHM, State Health Society and Directorate of Health Services in association with PATH at the State Health Society National Health Mission conference hall, Lamphelpat.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Chambo Gonmei pointed out that with the help of GIS Mapping, healthcare facilities in Imphal East and Imphal West can be effectively monitored, facilitating better planning and implementation of necessary interventions.
"Under this initiative, diagnostic equipment have been distributed to various Urban Public Health Centres (UP-HCs), including JNIMS, where laboratory technicians are available.
This will enable the centres to carry out essential diagnostic services," he said.
Dr Chambo informed that similar equipment will also be provided to other healthcare centres bereft of lab technicians, adding that the equipment will be tracked and monitored through GIS tagging.
"Once GIS Mapping is fully implemented in Imphal area, the initiative will be extended to interior regions of the state," the director assured.
The function was also attended by Family Welfare Services director Dr N Hemantakumar, Health Services additional director (MD) Dr N Bino Singh, National Health Mission Manipur state mission director Dr M Dinesh, chief medical officer of Imphal East and Imphal West, and medical officers of different health care centres.
The diagnostic equipment distributed on the occasion was sponsored by PATH which is the development partner of the initiative.
