Jiribam, August 29 2026:
The 48-hour bandh called by locals clubs, civil bodies and Meira Paibis at Jiribam's Uchathol region affected normal life today.
The 48-hour bandh from August 29 was called by the locals against the Government's failure to reconstruct and repair the NH-37-Gularthol-Uchathol-Jairol road.
No vehicles including those of security forces' were not allowed to ply the road.
Emergency services, including fire, water, health and religious rituals were exempted from the purview of the bandh today.
Uchathol Meira Paibi secretary W Santibala Devi said the bandh was enforced after Government authorities concerned failed to take up any positive steps to repair the road despite repeated appeals.
The Government must hear the appeals of the people of the region, and take immediate steps to repair the road at the earliest, she added.
