Jiribam, June 27 2024:
In case condition of the NH 37 could be improved and the government provides adequate security contractors would have no issue in completing transportation of the fertiliser consignment stored at Jiribam railway station within two days, asserted transport contractor Chongtham Jayentakumar.
Speaking to media persons at Jiribam railway station on Thursday, Jayentakumar recounted that similar to last year the urea consignment presently stacked at the railway station was delivered 'full rack' on June 23, despite his request to the department concerned for shipment in 'half rack' for convenient transportation.
As there is no proper warehouse to store the consignment in Jiribam the department informed of making an agreement by Northeast Frontier Railway officials for storing the fertiliser at the railway station and lifting the same in batches, the contractor revealed, while informing that on June 23 he made arrangements for engaging trucks to lift the urea only to defer the process due to non-provision of the security convoy.
Pointing out that without transport despatched from Imphal, there is no other means to lift the fertiliser, Jayentakumar also disclosed that last year he had written to the department to provide a warehouse, without which such problems will persist.
The contractor further mentioned that he had arranged for tarpaulins to cover the fertiliser consignment in view of rains, but as he had received complaints regarding it, personally went to inspect the condition.
Jayentakumar continued that some of the trucks that left Imphal on June 23 to pick up the consignment reached Jiribam on Wednesday, while the rest are on the way and few trucks waiting for fuelling in Imphal.
He urged the government to provide adequate security and convoy for the vehicles as the drivers are refusing to take the NH 37 without such arrangement, while adding that he had arranged the vehicles for transportation of the fertiliser by personally visiting the houses of truck owners.
It may be mentioned that presently the fertiliser consignment is being loaded in trucks for transporting to Imphal.
