Imphal, November 26 2024:
Chief minister N Biren Singh said on Tuesday that security agencies have identified the Kuki militants responsible for the recent killing of hostages in Jiribam.
Addressing the media at his secretariat office, Biren confirmed that joint security forces are currently conducting large-scale operation to track down the perpetrators.
The CM acknowledged the public's demand for more information on the ongoing crisis but emphasised that certain details remain confidential due to the involvement of external forces and the sensitive nature of the investigation.
There are certain elements who are waiting to sabotage anything announced by the government, he added.
He explained that after the November 11 incident in Jiribam, two companies of CRPF were immediately deployed, followed by an additional five companies.
While no arrests have been affected so far, Biren assured the public that operations are ongoing.
He also informed that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has registered cases related to the Jiribam incident and confirmed that the agency has identified key figures behind the attack.
However, he stated that the identities of these individuals have not been made public as the investigation is still in its early stages and the information remains classified.
The CM also reflected on the case of missing labourer from the Leimakhong army camp, stating that joint security forces are carrying out search and rescue operation.
A zero FIR has been registered at Sekmai police station in connection with the case, he said.
Regarding the public's demand for the government's proactive approach, Biren highlighted that two key resolutions adopted by the ruling MLAs on November 18 have already been put into action.
He reassured the public that the state government is continuing to press the Centre to withdraw the recent order re-imposing the Armed Forces' Special Powers Act (AFSPA) in areas under the jurisdiction of six police stations.
Biren urged COCOMI and the public to reconsider their proposed Strike to shut down government offices, pointing out that the Centre has already taken Steps to address some of the MLAs' resolutions.
He acknowledged the hardships faced by the public due to the ongoing crisis but appealed for patience as the government is working towards resolving the situation.
In his remarks on the closure of educational institutions, Biren assured that schools and colleges will be reopened as soon as the security situation improves.
He also confirmed that neutral forces like CRPF and BSF have been deployed in vulnerable areas, with the NIA committed to solving the cases assigned to them.
