Last rites of PLA captain Gulu conducted

Thoubal, October 26 2024: Last rites of PLA's self-styled captain Oinam-Babu alias Gulu of Kadamtala, Jiribam, who was killed in a gunfight with KNF (B) and PDF near Indo-Myanmar Border Pillar No 72 at Laijang village, Chandel district on October 23, was conducted at Heirok Part-I Umang Laikol near bank of Heirok river on Saturday.

Meanwhile, RPF PLA Central Committee posthumously bestowed the rank of major to Gulu.

Before the commencement of funeral, scores of people from different parts of the state visited and paid floral tributes to captain Gulu at Heirok Part-I community hall.

Later, a funeral procession carrying the body of captain Gulu with a banner 'Athouba Singna KatthokEe, Yawolna Khumang Chaosilli was taken out passing through Heirok, Wangjing, Thoubal, Yairipok, Pechi, Ukhong-shang, Salungpham, Kairembikhok and then returned back to Heirok for final rituals, after which the body was buried paying salute by PLA cadres in the presence of family members, friends, Meira Paibi activists, CSO leaders and public.

During the procession, people came out of their houses and paid floral tributes to captain Gulu along the way.

The last rites of Gulu were held at Heirok, fulfilling his desire to stay with his brothers at Heirok.

It can be mentioned that the bodies of two cadres of PREPAK (Pro) and one cadre of PLA were handed over to 5 Assam Rifles deployed at Indo-Myanmar border on October 24, which were then passed down by 21 AR and Machi police station that night to Pallel police station.

But due to the refusal of Pallel police station to take over the body citing unverifiability, Machi police station handed over the bodies to families of the deceased cadres.

The bodies were then brought to Kakching Lamkhai on October 24 night where public paid floral tributes.

Bodies of PREPAK (Pro) cadres were buried after last rites were performed on Friday at Iroisemba Thongak Lairembi Chingkhong, while body of captain Gulu was taken to Heirok and kept at Heirok Part-I community hall.
