Thoubal, February 26 2025:
Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee president Keisham Meghachandra has asserted that the current crisis in the state and the emergence of unwarranted and undesirable activities stem from the disregard for democracy and the violation of the human rights guaranteed by the Constitution of India.
The Wangkhem MLA was speaking at the launch function of 'Samvidhan Bachao Rashtriya Padayatra Jai Bapu Jai Bhim Jai Sambidhaan Abhiyan' campaign held at Lilong Haoreibi Makha Leikai playground organised by Lilong Block Congress Committee on Wednesday.
He stated that arresting individuals or subjecting them to harassment for expressing their views is against the freedom of speech and expression guaranteed to Indian citizens by the Constitution.
Meghachandra criticised the Modi-led government, saying that ever since it came to power in the state, along with the "double-engine" governments in other regions, the people have faced immense hardships.
He pointed out that the state has failed to take independent actions or make meaningful progress.
Despite its potential, the central leadership under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah has not been able to establish a stable government in Manipur.
Instead, the state government has simply followed the central directives.
As a result, the ongoing crisis has set the state back by 30 years.
He also criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and former Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh for their failure to effectively govern the state, which has led to the current crisis.
He stated that the trio should be held accountable for the unrest situation in the state.
Meghachandra further explained that the Samvidhan Bachao Rashtriya Padayatra Jai Bapu Jai Bhim Jai Sambidhaan Abhiyan campaign aims to raise awareness about the crisis in Manipur and India.
Meghachandra also remarked that violating the rights of the people of Manipur is equivalent to challenging the Constitution of India.
He cited the example of how people are unable to reach Moreh town in Tengnoupal district, which is only around 100 kilometres from Imphal, or proceed toward Churachandpur.
The inability to travel along national highways and the fact that it is against the law for any person to live in relief camps beyond 21 months amount to suppression of the citizens' rights.
In his address, CLP leader Okram Ibobi Singh said that the manner in which BJP shamed Dr BR Ambedkar and Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi, is violation of the Constitution of India.
The function was also attended by MPCC vice-president S Bidyapati, MPCC general secretary (Administration) Soibam Jiten, MPCC spokesperson Ningombam Bupenda Meitei, INC former candidates, Lilong Block Congress Committee president, executive members, DCC, BCC and Mahila Mandal members.
