Imphal, June 25 2025:
While stressing the need to understand the reason why BJP MLAs seem to be democratically infirm and voiceless during the President's Rule period, Thongju MLA Th Biswajit Singh said party MLAs are awaiting for an opportune moment to be in the service of the state and the people.
BJP Manipur Pradesh observed the 50th anniversary of declaration of Emergency in country as Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas at party's Tham-bal Shanglen on Wednesday.
Speaking on the sidelines of the observance function, MLA Biswajit advised the Congress party to exercise caution and not to mock at the BJP MLAs.
Before anything else, Congress party should focus on translating into action assurance given in the run-up to the last Lok Sabha election for return of the displaced persons to their respective homes within one month, Biswajit reminded.
He also declared to venerate the Congress party in case the election promise is fulfilled.
While asserting that BJP never discuss about disintegration of the state, Th Biswajit said BJP government at the Centre is working relentlessly to restore peace and normalcy in the state irrespective of whether people voted for BJP or not.
While recalling suffering of citizens of the country during the Emergency from 1975-1977, he said the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi declared emergency in the country on June 25, 1975 midnight without any consultation.
It was the third emergency declared in the country after the first during the India-China war in 1962 and second when the India-Pakistan war broke out in 1971 .
External aggression was cited for declaring emergency in 1962 and 1971 but the emergency imposed in 1975 was unreasonable and unconstitutional as there was no outstanding disturbances or issues.
Controversy within Congress syndicate was brought out as internal disturbance and accordingly rendered state legislatures, judiciary, executive and press powerless while many people associated with political organisations were lodged in jail, recounted the MLA and asked the people to decide if the emergency imposed in 1975 while crippling democratic institutions was legitimate or not.
Reflecting on imposition of President's Rule in Manipur, MLA Biswajit recalled that the central government had helmed the state's affairs 11 times with nine of them during the Congress rule.
He said that the present President's Rule was imposed for bringing good to the state and everyone should extend cooperation.
However, Congress party has been repeatedly questioning as to who invited President's Rule in the state, Biswajit added.
Taking advantage of the interaction with media persons, MLA Biswajit dismissed Congress party's allegation against Union home minister Amit Shah's remark on forming popular government in Manipur after reconciliation among the communities in conflict.
He contended that Amit Shah's remark on forming popular government after return of peace and ensuring free movement was a responsible one and it would be better for Congress party to talk only after deep discussion.
As part of the observance, BJP Manipur Pradesh also organised a seminar on Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas with participation of former chief minister N Biren and BJP Manipur Pradesh president A Sharda Devi.
A photo exhibition was also organised as part of the observance.
