Ima Sakhi no more, many mourn

Imphal, January 24 2022:
Apunba Manipur Kanba Ima Lup (AMKIL) former president Phanjoubam Sakhi Leima, popularly known as Ima Sakhi, who had led many agitations in the state, passed away at her Wangkhei Meihoubam residence around 6:45 pm Sunday.
She was 86 .
Attended by leaders of various CSOs, clubs and family members, a condolence meeting was held on Monday at Lizard Library Club, Wangkhei Meihoubam to mourn her demise.
The congregation also offered floral tributes and observed a two-minute silence as mark of respect to the departed soul.
Former chairman of the proscribed UKNLF RK Meghen also paid his last respects to Ima Sakhi at the programme.
Briefly speaking on the occasion, RK Meghen lamented that demise of Ima Sakhi is a great loss for Manipur and remembered her as one of the great women leaders who worked for the welfare of society.
Though, it is inevitable that women leaders like her will pass away there will be many more who will take forward her legacy, he expressed and stressed that the public should never forget the role taken by women in many noteworthy works for the society.
It can be mentioned that Ph Sakhi was the second president of AMKIL which was formed in 2000.She was born on June 13, 1935 at Keishamthong Moirangningthou Leirak.
Coalition Against Drugs & Alcohol (CADA) and International Peace and Social Advancement (IPSA) also expressed deep condolences over the demise of Ima Sakhi.
In separate releases, the CSOs prayed for her soul to rest in peace and shared the grief of the bereaved family.
