Imphal, June 23 2025:
A two-day skill training programme under the JAIHIND 2025 initiative was conducted from June 20 at the Sustainable Aquaculture Centre, Kirori Mal College, University of Delhi, for students and faculty members from Ukhrul district.
Organised as part of the Janjati Immersive Holistic Intervention for Novel Development (JAIHIND 2025) - a flagship collaboration between the University of Delhi and the Ministry of Education, the programme aims to create awareness about the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) and the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, while offering practical exposure to the university's skill development ecosystem.
A total of 24 Class XII students and two faculty members from four schools in Ukhrul participated in the training, which focused on aquaculture-based vocational learning.
Coordinated by Dr Lukram Ingochouba Meetei, the sessions offered hands-on experience in sustainable aquaculture practices, including ornamental fish culture with glass aquarium fabrication, pearl culture with nucleus insertion in freshwater mussels, biofloc technology for water-efficient fish farming, and nutrient-balanced fish feed formulation using local ingredients.
The training encouraged students to explore sustainable fish farming as a potential livelihood, combining scientific knowledge with field-based application.
According to the organisers, the programme helped spark curiosity and inspired the young participants to think beyond traditional career pathways.
The event was supported and guided by key university officials, including vice-chancellor Prof Yogesh Singh, Kirori Mal College principal Prof Dinesh Khattar, dean of academic affairs Prof K Ratnabali, and School of Open Learning director & Skill Committee chairperson Prof Payal Mago.
The university also acknowledged the efforts of Team DU for ensuring the safety, well-being and coordination of the visiting students and faculty members.
The JAIHIND 2025 programme was formally inaugurated on June 17 by Ministry of Higher Education secretary Vineet Joshi, in the presence of Prof Yogesh Singh and Prof K Ratnabali to bridge educational disparities, strengthen national integration, and empower students from tribal and remote regions through immersive academic and skill-based interventions.
