Kakching lawyers stage sit-in

Kakching, February 23 2025:
Denouncing the proposed The Advocates Amendment Bill 2025, Kakching District Bar Association organised a sit-in protest in front of the District Court Complex, currently under construction at Machin Manao Ching, on Sunday.
During the sit-in, the advocates, led by Association president senior advocate Nongmaithem Modhu, held placards inscribed with the slogans, "We strongly condemn The Advocates Amendment Bill 2025", "Remove Draconian Provisions under The Advocates Amendment Bill 2025", "The Bar s Autonomy and Independence is under attack by "Unilateral Change", "The Advocates Amendment Bill 2025 Down Down", "Remove Section 9 B, 26 A, 45 B, 35 A of The Advocates Amendment Bill 2025", "Justice for Advocate", "Repeal The Advocates Amendment Bill 2025", and "Save Advocates Right" .

Speaking on the sidelines, general secretary B Prem Sharma said that the Association would support any decision taken by the Bar Council of India for the welfare of advocates.
He then urged all not to threaten advocates or interfere in court proceedings.
Prem also called upon authorities concerned to complete the construction of Kakching District Court Complex at the earliest, in the interest of the people of the district.
