AR pays tribute to bravehearts martyred in Nambol ambush

Imphal, September 22 2025:
Paying tribute to the supreme sacrifice of two valiant soldiers, Assam Rifles conducted wreathlaying ceremonies in Shillong and Raipur to honour Naib Subedar (Late) Shyam Gurung and Rifleman (General Duty) (Late) Ranjeet Singh Kashyap, who laid down their lives in the line of duty during an ambush at Nambol in Bishnupur district.
Under the aegis of Headquarters Directorate General Assam Rifles, a dignified ceremony was held at Headquarters Assam Rifles, Shillong, where Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera, AVSM, SM, Director General Assam Rifles, laid the wreath and paid heartfelt homage to Naib Subedar Shyam Gurung, according to a press release issued by IGAR (S) .
The ceremony was attended by more than 200 people, including senior officials and troops, who gathered to honour the memory of the fallen soldier.
The mortal remains of Naib Subedar Gurung was transported from Imphal to Shillong on September 21, and his last rites were performed with full military honours at Mukti Dham, Happy Valley, in the presence of his grieving family.
Simultaneously, a wreathlaying ceremony was held in Raipur to pay tribute to Rifleman Ranjeet Singh Kashyap this morning.
Deputy Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh Vijay Sharma laid the wreath and expressed profound sorrow over the loss.
He commended Rifleman Kashyap's courage and assured continued Government support to the families of martyrs.
The mortal remains, flown from Imphal to Raipur on September 21, were received with full honours at Raipur Airport.
The ceremony witnessed the presence of senior officials, Armed Forces representatives, CAPFs, and State authorities.
Subsequently, the remains were airlifted by IAF Mi-17 helicopter to Jagdalpur and transported by road to his hometown, where the final rites were conducted with full military honours in the presence of family members, dignitaries, local administration, and police, witnessed by a gathering of approximately 5,000 local citizens who came together to pay their respects.
It may be noted that the ambush occurred while the troops were returning from flood relief operations in the Imphal valley.
