Imphal, August 22 2026:
The All Manipur Airtel Workers Union has deferred its proposed agitation against Bharti Airtel Ltd following talks, while warning of intensified agitation including shutdown against Indus Tower Ltd from September 16 .
In a press release, the Union said that in a joint press meet with All Manipur Trade Union on August 3, 2026, they had demanded implementation of salary hike for Airtel caretakers as per the Government of Manipur Gazette Notification dated October 18, 2024 by September 15, 2026, failing which State-wide Airtel network shutdown would be launched from September 15, 2026.Both Bharti Airtel Ltd and Indus Tower Ltd were informed.
Following this, officials of Bharti Airtel Ltd from Guwahati came to Imphal and held talks on August 20, 2026 led by the general secretary and working vice president of All Manipur Trade Union along with representatives of Airtel Workers Union.
The company agreed to hike the salary of caretakers under it but sought three months time to prepare and get head office approval.
The unions agreed and withdrew the stir for towers under Bharti Airtel Ltd for three months.
However, Indus Tower Ltd did not send any representative and no talks have been held so far.
The Union said it has informed Indus Tower officials about the progress with Bharti Airtel Ltd and if no positive response comes soon, "an agitation even more intense than the previous one even shutdown may be launched starting from September 16, 2026" for towers under Indus Tower Ltd will go ahead as announced.
The company will be responsible for any fallout, the Union said.
