Training for 21st Livestock Census underway

Ahead of the 21st Livestock Census exercise, a two-day state-level training programme was inaugurated by Veterinary & Animal Husbandry (V&AH) Services director Dr RK Khogendrajit Singh at the Farmers' Training Hall of veterinary complex near Sanjenthong, here, on Thursday.
The training, organised by the Directorate of V&AH is specifically designed for district nodal officers, supervisors, and enumerators who would be engaged in the conduct of the 21st Livestock Census in the state.
The quinquennial exercise, conducted across India since 1919, will gather data on the population of domestic animals and poultry birds, including details such as breed, sex, age, and usage.
The last census, the 20th Livestock Census, was conducted in 2019.For the upcoming census, enumeration will be carried but in all villages and urban wards across the country using a mobile app from September to December 2024.The inaugural session of the training programme was also attended by joint directors (administration) Dr L Arun-kumar and (planning) Dr L Gojen, and senior administrative officer Selina Thounaojam.
Similar training programmes are being planned at the district level across the state in coming days.
Meanwhile, the directorate has appealed to the public to extend cooperation to the officials as and when the 21st Livestock Census is conducted.
