Imphal, July 20 2024:
Taking serious note of the recent fake ILP permit racket, Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) has asked all the people involved in the racket to surrender themselves to the government as well as JCILPC, failing which they themselves would be responsible for any unwanted consequences.
Addressing a press meet at its Keishampat Konjeng Hazari Leikai office premises, here, on Saturday, JCILPS convenor Thiyam Saratchandra appreciated the state police for its crackdown on the gang.
As stated by the chief minister, there must be high ranking officials and businessmen involved in the racket, he said and asked them to surrender before the government as well as JCILPS.
Even though there are several policies and regulations, insincerity in implementation by executives and legislators would render them useless, he said.
It is unfortunate that the gang had already issued around 3500 fake ILP permits and it also shows the failure of mechanism for renewal and issuance of ILP permits, he contended.
He recalled an inspection visit to the ILP counter at Jiribam railway station by a team of JCILPS on April 30 last year and their findings on the improper way of issuing ILP permits there.
In January this year, the government restricted JCILPS teams from carrying out a drive to identify people who entered the state via Mao without ILP permits in Sekmai area.
They also tried to conduct a drive in Imphal city area but faced hurdles.
Moreover, JCILPS reported instances of fake Aadhaar cards but the government did not take up any action in this regard.
However, the government is seen in action this time by unearthing the ILP racket and JCILPS will support the crackdown against such gangs, he said and urged the government to support JCILPS in conducting drives.
He also appealed to MLAs, ministers and senior officials of the government not to create hurdles in such drives.
He also appealed to the government to strictly enforce the ILPS regulation and implement NRC at the earliest.
