Imphal, February 20 2025:
Reaffirming the commitment of Manipur Police in nurturing young sporting talent, Director General of Police (DGP) Rajiv Singh on Thursday inaugurated 4th Master Boys and Girls Boxing Championship (6 to 12 years) and 1st State Level Blue Cubs Baby League (6 to 12 years) at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex.
Addressing those gathered as the chief guest, DGP Rajiv highlighted Manipur's rich sporting heritage, producing world-class athletes, including Olympic medallists and international champions.
Reflecting on the nearly two-year old violence and its impact on the youth, he advised 'misguided youths' who have become anti-social, to embrace sports, and channelise their energy towards constructive and positive endeavours.
He reiterated that sports provide an alternative path - one that fosters discipline, teamwork, and a sense of purpose-leading to a brighter future for both individuals and society.
Recognising sports as a unifying force that fosters discipline, health, and resilience, the DGP announced that Manipur Police are taking a proactive role in promoting sports under the "Catch Them Young" initiative.
He expressed confidence that the newly introduced Baby League will not only groom future champions but also offer a joyful and enriching experience for children as young as six.
He further said that Manipur Police have always been keen in promoting sports personalities which could be seen from the huge contingent of sports players in Manipur Police.
Players of global stature such as Mary Kom, Sarita Laishram, Mirabai Chanu, Bala Devi, and Sarjubala Devi among many have been proud part of Manipur police, he added.
