Imphal, January 20 2025:
A five-day workshop on 'Holistic Progress Card (HPC) for Secondary Stage and Standardisation of Question Paper Templates' commenced on Monday at Hotel Imphal, North AOC.
Organised by the Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BSEM) under the aegis of NCERT's Parakh initiative, the workshop aims to enhance understanding of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 reforms among educators.
Education (S) director L Nandakumar, speaking as chief guest of the event, emphasised the importance of adopting Holistic Progress Cards in the education sector.
He highlighted that NEP 2020 focuses on 360-degree assessment of students, moving beyond traditional report cards that only showcase marks secured in each subjects.
"HPC will include evaluations of abilities, skills, and outcomes, providing a comprehensive view of a student's progress," he said.
Nandakumar also stressed the need for standardising question papers and aligning them with the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) pattern.
He pointed out that simply scoring high marks in the 12th standard no longer guarantees college admissions, as CUET evaluates students' overall performance based on its standardised framework.
Teachers must familiarise themselves with the CUET format to guide students effectively, he said, adding that the department will soon organise trainings for master trainers with CUET experts.
These trainers will then train other teachers to ensure a seamless transition into the new system, he informed.
BoSEM chairman Akham Joykumar highlighted the transformative potential of NEP 2020 for the state's education sector, explaining that assessments for generating Holistic Progress Cards will be introduced for 10th standard students.
He also outlined changes in the syllabus, curriculum, and question paper patterns, urging teachers to make the most of the workshop to implement NEP reforms effectively.
Joykumar further informed that preparations for the High School Leaving Certificate Examination (HSLCE) 2025, set to begin on February 19, are almost complete and appealed to the public to refrain from calling bandhs or blockades during the examination period to prevent unnecessary stress on students.
The workshop's inaugural session was also attended by BSEM secretary S Jitelal Sharma, controller of examination A Thoi, and two representatives from PARAKH-NCERT, who were the resource persons.
