Maram-Purul PMGSY road bereft of maintenance

Maram to Purul Atongba PMGSY road with a stretch of 22km is under deplorable condition as no maintenance work has taken up till date.
According to the signboard erected near Maram bazar, Maram to Purul Atongba PMGSY road (Package No MN06294 Phase-IX) work commenced from August 2, 2019 with completion report submitted bn February 1, 2021 .
The signboard also highlights date for maintenance of the road from February 2, 2021 to February 1, 2026 .
However, the Maram-Phaibung Road Development Association said that that no mainte nance work has been taken up till date and the road is now filled with potholes and cracks.
The project funded by the Ministry of Rural Development was executed by EE/PIU-III(SPT)RED/ MSRRDA, Government of Manipur and it was allotted to a contractor named L Romesh Meetei.
Maram-Purul road is one of the main lifeline for the Poumai community in Senapati district and non-maintenance of the road have raised many questions among the community particularly on why road maintenance remains delayed and who shall deal with and who is responsible for the maintenance.

One culvert that was constructed some 5/6 years back at a place near Koide village is not in use till date thereby causing inconveniences to the commuters and traffic congestion.
Non-maintenance of drainage of the road is one of the main causes for destruction of the blacktopped road, some commuters opined.
