Pfosena Union celebrates silver jubilee

Pfosena Union consisting of all villages from Pfosemei (Pudunamei) celebrated its Silver Jubilee at Purunamei village in Senapati district under the theme 'Know thy Root' on Wednesday.
Professor Dr Xavier Pfokrehe of NEHU and ex-member of ICPR was chief guest of the celebration, with Evangelist (Retd) Chamaikho Kala Puni attending the same as guest of honour and NEPCO (Shillong) retired executive director Nepuni Kaikho as special guest.
Giving a brief account of the Pfosena Union, its advisor P Athuo said some visionary leaders from the village began to think of out-migrating the village in search of greener pastures with the growth of population and limited lands.

"Since then, there was persistent urge to venture out for new settlements and establishment of new villages by many other visionary and courageous men", he recounted.
Accordingly, new villages were established at Daili village in Kangpokpi area, Puni Pfosemei village, Taphou Pudunamei and Sadim Pfosemei village in Senapati district.
"The settlements also extended to Kohima, Dimapur, Imphal, Guwahati and Shillong," he continued, adding that the need to set up Pfosena Union was thus discussed in 1997-98 and subsequently, Pfosena Union was formed in 1999.Special guest Nepuni Kaikho, in his speech, noted that people honoured the Pfosemei villagers for their generosity and honesty since the past.
"Although there are already many learned persons in the village, the youth still need to aim higher to make the village stand tall," he said, while encouraging parents to uplift their children in different fields.
In his speech, professor Dr Xavier stated that Pfosemei (Pudunamei) has different records and footprints since the past and many personalities from the village have represented in different fields according to records.
He urged the villagers to unite and keep away from evil practices and endeavour to build a brighter future by enlightening children of the village.
Around 300 Nolopfii (women) married to men outside the village were honoured with gifts at the event attended by more than 2,000 delegates.
The delegates were from Pfosena Union consisting of Pudunamei, Puni Pfosemei, Sadim Pfosemei, Daili village, Kohima unit, Dimapur unit, Imphal unit and Guwahati/Shillong unit.
