Imphal, August 13 2024:
Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has submitted a memorandum to education minister Th Basantakumar demanding removal of Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BSEM) chairman Akham Joykumar and initiate vigilance case against him.
The memorandum pointed out that DESAM has been advocating uplift of the education sector and welfare of students through campaigns and activities to stop mass copying in examinations, institution of Manipur Nursing Council, rationalisation of teachers of government schools, bringing uniform academic calendar in all schools besides taking part in other important issues of the state.
While stating that DESAM has been repeatedly raising questions on the role of the then BSEM secretary and controller of examinations on their role in tampering of marks obtained by students in HSLCE 2018, it recalled that the state government constituted a committee following the demands of DESAM with both secretary and controller of examinations removed in 2018 on the recommendation of the committee.
Unfortunately, the present government brought back the same ousted secretary of BSEM Akham Joykumar with promotion as chairman, it said, while asserting that unlawful and forceful placement of Akham Joykumar Singh at the BSEM chairman is against the desire of the student community.
Charging the chairman of indulging in backdoor appointment of five people on contract basis, it further asserted that DESAM has proof of leakage of HSLC exam 2023 questions by the chairman in connivance with Santa Leishangthem (henchman of Akham Joykumar Singh).
While raising important issues regarding misuse of fund by the Board, mismatch of income and expenditure, the memorandum demanded removal of Akham Joykumar Singh and initiating vigilance case against him in the interest of the state and appointing untainted and hardworking people in the important post.
