Koireng-led UNLF punishes alleged rapist

The Koireng-led United National Liberation Front (UNLF) claimed of awarding punishment to one Khaidem Nongdam of Nagamapal Phougeisangbam Leikai for raping a girl on January 10, 2025 .
According to a UNLF statement, Khaidem Nongdam Khanganba (30), son of Kh Mangilal Singh, raped a girl inside a hotel in Imphal on January 10 after intense physical and mental torture for a whole night.
After the girl lodged a complaint, Special Task Force of UNLF launched an investigation into the incident with Khaidem Nongdam shot on his legs as punishment after finding him guilty, the statement said.
Recounting the incident, the UNLF statement issued by publicity secretary M Shak-Hen said the 28-year-old girl was returning home from Delhi but stayed in a hotel in Imphal.
At the same hotel, Khaidem Nongdam Khanganba too was celebrating birthday with some of his friends the same evening.
Taking advantage of the girl staying alone in the hotel, Nongdam Khanganba entered the girl's room posing as a staff, enquiring the girl about her requirements.
Nongdam consumed liquor after ordering the same from the hotel and asked the girl to have liquor as well.
As the girl resisted Nongdam Khanganba's attempts to control her, they engaged in an intense tussle for the whole night.
Eventually in the wee hours, Nongdam Khanganba raped the girl after beating her and threatening to kill her.
The incident as narrated by the victim corroborated with confessional statement of Nongdam Khanganba and Special Task Force unearthed truth about the incident.
After accepting his mistake and immoral conduct, Nongdam Khanganba sought pardon by kneeling down in front of the girl which the latter accepted on humanitarian ground.
Later, the matter was relayed to relevant authority of the organisation and decided to award light punishment to Nongdam Khanganba instead of severe action, the UNLF statement said adding that Special Task Force acted as per the directive of the relevant authority.
