Imphal, August 12 2024:
In connection with the walk out staged from the Manipur Legislative Assembly, five opposition MLAs submitted a written explanation to the Speaker ahead of the last sitting on Monday.
Addressing the media at Congress Bhawan, here, on Monday, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president K Meghachandra said that the opposition MLAs walked out of the assembly session on August 9 after issues raised by them were disrespected and ignored by the Speaker, who as the chairman of the House is supposed to be unbiased.
However, Works minister Govindas Konthoujam's statements during the zero hour in Monday's sitting claimed that all of the opposition's statements were heard, which is unfortunate.
It would be wrong to consider any issue brought up by the opposition as engaging in politics.
The conflict has been gripping the state for over 15 months, he mentioned, while questioning if opinions of the opposition members should not be heard.
Urging the double engine government to bring up core issue of the conflict on the table and come up with a solution; Meghachandra recounted that the five Congress MLA proposed a private member notice for all members of the House to meet the PM for putting an end to the conflict, and verbally reminded the same in the House, the same was rebuked at with utter disregard.
Apart from undermining the notice, opposition MLA Th Lokeshwar's proposal for a secret meeting to discuss the matter, failed to receive any response.
However, the Works minister falsely claimed in the House that all issues were discussed, he lamented.
