Thoubal, June 10 2024:
Unidentified gunmen abandoned an Alto car at a spot between Wangbal and Kairembikhok under Thoubal police station on Saturday evening with multiple bullet holes as police retrieved the vehicle.
As per a police source, the incident occurred at about 11pm Saturday and the retrieved Maruti car had no registration plates and bore at least nine bullet holes on tyres and side door.
Locals informed that they heard some rounds of gun-fire late Saturday evening and later found a car riddled with bullets but no occupants.
They also said that Moirangthem Totomsana alias Nongsha-ba, who contested the 18th Lok Sabha in Inner Manipur parliamentary constituency, came at Wangbal in the evening and sought blessing from local Meira Paibi.
Few minutes after Totomsana left Meira Paibi shed and went towards Kairembikhok side, locals heard sound of gun-fire, they said.
Meanwhile, Totomsana uploaded a video on social media stating that he went to the Wangbal house of one of his brothers on Saturday and returned home after having dinner.
However, some unidentified armed men stopped his car near Kairembikhok.
He also said that he refused the demand of the armed men to transport them and accordingly took away the car from him.
When at home, a phone call from Wangbal asked about my condition and also informed me that the car had been abandoned with multiple bullet holes and police had retrieved the car.
Terming the incident as very unfortunate, Totomsana said in the video that the incident proved that some people opposed to him are always after him.
He also said that he borrowed the car for use in election and the owner had already informed him to return back the car.
