Imphal, May 10 2024:
An academic discourse on National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 was jointly organised by All Manipur Recognised Private Schools' Welfare Association (AMRP-SWA), Bishnupur District Recognised Private Schools' Association (BDRPSA), Private Schools' Development Council Thoubal (PSDCT), United Association of Recognised Schools of Manipur (UARSM) and Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) at the auditorium of JN Manipur Dance Academy, here, on Friday.
Manipur University retired professor Dr W Nabaku-mar moderated the session wherein several academicians and experts shared their opinions, followed by the gathering adopting four resolutions for submission to the government.
The resolutions included framing a pre-primary - foundational stage education policy; initiating training programme for teachers for foundational stage; opening of four-year integrated teachers' education programme; and making a framework for regulating pre-primary teachers' education institutes and schools offering pre-primary education.
Speaking on the occasion, DESAM president Mayanglambam Somorjit observed that NEP 2020 is still not implemented in the state as the government is delaying the matter.
Even though DESAM had urged the government to make necessary arrangements when NEP was still in the draft stage, the state government is yet to take any steps to fill up the gaps that would arise after implementation of the policy.
Till today, there are not epough trained teachers to teach pre-primary classes and the government has also not published qualification for recruitment of teachers, he lamented.
