Thoubal/Kakching, December 07 2024: Thoubal deputy commissioner Ahanthem Su,bhash launched 100-day Intensified Campaign on Tuberculosis (TB) Elimination Programme for Thoubal district by flagging off a mobile medical vehicle on Saturday.

The launch programme organised by National TB Elimination Programme (NTEP), Thoubal Centre at Thoubal DC conference hall was attended by Thoubal DC A Subhash, Thoubal chief medical officer Dr Y Nokul, Thoubal district malaria officer Dr Lalitkumar as chief guest, president and guest of honour, respectively.

Speaking on the occasion, Thoubal district TB officer Dr Y Shameen stated that central government is aiming to achieve the World Health Organisation (WHO) target of reducing TB incidence by 80 per cent, TB deaths by 90 per cent by 2030, five years before the said time period ie., by 2025 .

He also mentioned that the campaign is targeting to identify TB patients by conducting widespread testing, provide timely treatment and to raise awareness on preventive care against the disease.

As part of the event, participants led by Thoubal DC A Subhash took a pledge to eliminate TB disease.

NTEP, Thoubal co-ordinator Thongam Stephen, staff and ASHA workers were also present at the function.

Meanwhile, District Health Society (DHS), Kakching, under the NTEP, launched the 100-day Intensified Campaign on Tuberculosis (TB) Elimination Programme for Kakching district on Saturday.

The campaign was inaugurated by Kakching DC Rohit Anand.

The event held at the conference hall of DC Kakching was also attended by Kakching CMO Dr Thaodem Rajen and Kakching Municipal Council Ward No.4 caretaker councillor P Sanahal.

As a part of the programme, Kakching DC also flagged off the 'Nikshay Vahan' for the district.

At the event, Rohit Anand stated that the government 's initiative to eliminate TB from the country requires collective efforts.

He urged the Medical Department staff, civil society organisations, clubs and the public of Kakching district to actively contribute and work together to achieve the goal of eradicating TB from the district.

It may be mentioned that the 100 days campaign is a mission to find the missing TB cases in the community as early as possible so that the spread of infection can be prevented and the villages and communities become TB free at the earliest.

This is an effort towards reaching out to those vulnerable individuals (undernourished, people living with HIV, close contacts of people with active TB, people with diabetes, smokers, alcoholics), who by virtue of having these conditions/situations Could be having active TB disease and would have presented to the health system at a later stage.

Till that time, they continue to spread the disease unknowingly as well as suffer progression of the disease within themselves.

The mission will focus on early initiation of the treatment and managing the risk factors (diabetes, undernourishment, etc) so that the TB deaths can be prevented.

The campaign will also focus on ensuring provision of TB preventive treatment (TPT) to all the eligible household contacts and vulnerable populations.

On the other hand, District Health Society,(DHS), Chandel and NTEP, Chandel jointly launched 100-day Intensified Campaign on TB Elimination Programme for Chandel district at District TB Centre, Chandel on Saturday.

The programme was attended by Chandel CMO Dr Joyson Mathew Monsang as chief guest, Chandel district TB officer Dr Tongen Roel as president and Chandel district AIDS control officer Dr B Cingdeihnierig as guest of honour.

Chandel CMO Dr Dr Joysop Mathew Monsang kick-started the campaign by flagging off 'Nikshay Vahan' along with distributing 'Nikshay Mitra Food Baskets' to TB patients.
