Imphal, May 07 2025:
With the stated objective for better understanding on the role of ombudsman of MGNREGA in Imphal West district, a coordination meeting of district programme coordinator, block development officers of IW-I & II, Hiyangthang and Patsoi blocks, project officers and RD&PR Department engineers was held along with staffers of the Ombudsman office at the Zilla Parishad hall, Lamphelpat on Tuesday.
According to a release, MGNREGA Imphal West ombudsman Yumnam Laksman pointed out the role and functioning of ombudsman in MGNREGA which is a flagship programme of the government of India.
The ombudsman is an office for redressal of grievances and disposal of complaints from job card holders and other officials relating to the implementation of MGNREGS, he explained and sought the cooperation of DPC and all block development officers of Imphal West to enable him help the poor, unemployed and marginal labourers.
In his address, district programme coordinator Keisham Jadumani Singh advised BDOs/programme officers to create awareness about important role of ombudsman in the successful implementation of the scheme in the district.
"There is nothing to be afraid of and worried about the complaints raised by the beneficiaries.
It is good that unlike other schemes, MGNREGS is having ombudsman.
All disputes may be settled at the level of ombudsman instead of facing difficulties in the court and police stations.
Minor mistakes can always be rectified at the block and district levels.
As such, maximum support should be extended to the ombudsman in future," elaborated the district programme coordinator.
He also advised all concerned to forward pending cases to the Ombudsman Office for early disposal.
