Cosmos flower festival begins at Naamai Zho

The picturesque meadow of Naamai Zho came alive with the grand opening of the 4th Cosmos Flower Festival, 2024, a celebration of the vibrant and resilient Cosmos flower.
The festival was inaugurated in the presence of 16 Assam Rifles commandant Col Sandeep Sharma as chief guest, and Senapati forest divisional officer (DFO) Shanngam S as guest of honour.
Speaking at the inauguration function, DFO Shanngam likened Cosmos to symbol of love and unity, deeply engraved in the memories and traditions of the local community.
Apart from the festival serving as a platform to reminisce the flower's cultural relevance, where the male suitor traditionally proposes to his beloved with a cosmos bloom, signifying acceptance, he said cosmos bloom is a message of collective efforts and the beauty of oneness.
In his address, Col Sandeep Sharma highlighted the transformative power of flowers, stating, "Flowers bring a sense of peace".
He lauded the efforts of the Naa-mai Eco-Tourism Society (NETS) in organising the festival and pledged his support to any future endeavours by the society, echoing its tagline, "Friends of the Hills".
The evening was filled with captivating performances, as the popular musical band "Lost and Found" from Senapati enthralled the crowd with their energetic renditions.
The stage was further enthralled by the talented Ziikhu Titus Tyaletya, the rising star of the Poumai community along with Ng Atoznah, Reihvei Bernard and Rang Stifler belting out the crowds' favourites.
The month-long 4th Cosmos Flower Festival promises to be a celebratory event, showcasing the rich cultural heritage and natural beauty of the region, while fostering unity and a deep appreciation for the enduring cosmos flower.
