Kamjong observes 75th Van Mahotsav

Plantation of tree saplings and discourses marked the 75th Van Mahotsav celebration at Silent Tangkhul village on Thursday.
As many as 1000 saplings of varied tree species were planted during the forest festival celebration which brought together a delegation of staff and officials from Divisional Forest official, social forestry Division, Mantripukhri, Imphal, led by DFO Sw Suisa and locals of Silent village.
Social Forestry Division in collaboration with the Village Authority, Youth Club and women society of Silent village launched "Ek ped Maa ke Naam: Plant4Mother" during the weeklong Van Mahotsav Celebration 2024 .
Speaking during the inaugural function, DFO Suisa reiterated that plantation of trees is one of the most effective tools to combat extreme climate change and prevent natural disasters of flood and drought in the watershed of rivers, streams and water sources in the state.
"People are requested to participate in the recently launched programme by Prime Minister of India "Ek ped Maa ke Naam: Plant4Mother" campaign for a sustainable and secured planet Earth," he said.
The event was attended by Silent village headman Ngamkahao Siro and local villagers, including local pastor Chingringam Marchang, Social Forestry Division, Y Kunje Singh (RFO, Eastern SFR), Geetanjali Sharma (RFO western SFR) along with Th Gyanic (RFO Manipur Zoological Garden) and staff of Social Forestry Division.
