LDA leads in flood relief efforts

Loktak Development Authority (LDA) chairman Asnikumar Moirangthem provided a comprehensive briefing on the flood re lief and rescue operations currently being undertaken to chief minister N Biren during the latter's site inspection of Singjamei area which has been impacted due to breach of embankment and subsequent flooding.
During the inspection, Asnikumar expressed gratitude to the chief minister for his encouraging words and reaffirmed LDA's dedication to addressing the needs of the flood-affected communities swiftly and effectively.
The chairman also took practice part in collecting boats used for rescue operations, working alongside LDA teams and local volunteers.
The operational efforts are being spearheaded by LDA project director L Bhagaton Singh and Superintending Engineer Ng Sanajaoba Meetei.
LDA officials are not only focused on relief and rescue efforts but also on assessing river and stream conditions to enhance downstream water drainage and identify potential blockages.
Immediate clearing of obstructed areas, including weeds and garbage, is being carried out to ensure smooth water flow.
Asnikumar pointed out that the unprecedented flash floods are a result of extensive deforestation in the catchment areas of rivers and streams flowing through the Manipur Valley.
He expressed sincere gratitude to RD&PR minister Y Khemchand Singh for his proactive leadership and unwavering support during this challenging period.
He also appreciated the invaluable contributions of stakeholders such as the NDRF team, SDRF Team, district administration, State Fire Services, Assam Rifles and local volunteers for their dedicated service.
With heavy rainfall expected to continue amid the grim situation in Imphal and surrounding areas, LDA remains vigilant, he said while adding that he has issued directives for prompt precautionary measures.
LDA is prepared to support affected communities and assist district administrations in implementing necessary preventive actions, assured the chairman.
