Imphal, May 03 2025:
In the wake of the recent violence that rocked Tamenglong district headquarters between April 26 and 30, the United Women Organisation, Tamenglong (UWOT) has issued a clarion call for peaceful co-existence and renewed dialogue among communities, Expressing serious concern over the escalating tensions, UWOT in a statement stressed the urgent need to strengthen ongoing peace efforts led by Rongmei Baptist Churches Council (RBCC) and other stakeholders.
The organisation underscored that violence is path-dependent and self-perpetuating, warning that its occurrence anywhere can disrupt peace everywhere.
"We must all be peacemakers," UWOT stated, emphasising that peace with justice must begin with individuals and communities committed to transforming broken relationships.
The organisation reiterated that no conflict is so entrenched it cannot be transformed by citizens working together with wisdom, commitment, and necessary resources.
Calling upon conflicting parties to resolve their differences through one-to-one dialogue, reconciliation, and inclusive community engagement, UWOT highlighted that the road to negotiation is never simple but essential.
The group acknowledged that compromise and mutual trust are difficult, especially for those directly affected by violence, but insisted that dialogue remains the only viable foundation for lasting peace.
UWOT further urged the government, civil society organisations, NGOs, community leaders, and individuals to join forces in promoting peace-building efforts across the district, while calling for a culture rooted in understanding, cooperation, and sustained dialogue to prevent future conflicts.
UWOT asserted that every step toward peace is a step toward a brighter future for all communities in Tamenglong.
