JNMDA director calls for promoting art forms

Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy (JNMDA) director Pukhrambam Bilash has called for promoting the art forms of the state, which are losing popularity, for the future generations.
Speaking as chief guest of a worksflop cum production on Gouranga Lila organised by All Manipur Gouranga Lila San-senba Artistes' Association under the cultural function and production grant scheme of the ministry of culture at Ima Nonga Leima community hall, Thangmeiband Hijam Dewan Leikai on Tuesday, Bilash acknowledged that Gouranga Lila is one of the dying art forms of the state and hailed the association for promoting the art form.
As there are several art forms on the verge of extinction, the present generation needs to promote and keep them alive for the future, he stressed.
Sangeet Natak Akademi award winning instructor of Nata Sankirtana Dr Leimapokpam Lakhpati presided over the event, which was also attended by EZCC Kolkata board of governors' member Buddha Chingtham as guest of honour.
Other speakers also voiced the same concern over the dying art forms of the state and called for concerted efforts to ensure survival of the same.
Later, artistes of the association staged a Nata Sankirtana performance followed by presentation of the workshop production 'Gouranga Lila' .
While Nata Sankirtana (Ishei) instructor Yumnam Jatra was honoured by presenting gifts, floral tributes were paid to the photo of the association founder Thokchom Brinasabi.
