Imphal, June 02 2024:
Displaced individuals from Moreh and Churachandpur, currently residing in various relief camps, have called on the government to expedite process for releasing the assured Rs 1 lakh compensation to address their immediate financial needs.
Committee on Protection of Meetei Victims of Moreh chairman Leishangthem Inaocha Meetei, interacting with some media persons on Saturday, acknowledged the government's efforts in providing relief assistance in the form of ration and other essential items.
However, he emphasised that these provisions are insufficient for sustaining a dignified life.
"The ration is not enough to survive as a human being," said Inaocha, while reminding authorities concerned that the displaced people fled with nothing but the clothes on their backs, lost their sources of income and are struggling to meet their financial needs.
Most of the displaced individuals, who earlier sustained life as daily wagers, are now in an even more precarious condition without a steady income.
The lack of financial support has exacerbated their hardships, he said.
Inaocha urged the chief minister, in particular, to address their plight urgently and facilitate the early release of the assured compensation to help them overcome the challenges.
