Protest erupts against murder of man

Locals of Khangabok in Thoubal district, on Sunday carried out a protest march denouncing the murder of social worker and founder of a school, Thokchom Ibomcha (65) after being abducted for ransom by an armed group.
Protestors blocked NH 102 demanding justice.
Ibomcha, son of late Amusana Sastri of Khangabok Awang Leikai was found dead on the bank of Leishang Hiden in Lilong Chajing area on Saturday night.
He was a retired AS & SO in the settlement department and founder of Kim Educational Society, Khangabok and also ran a school.
He was abducted by armed persons, who came in a Tata Safari, from a tea stall at Khangabok Keithel, on June 18 morning in connection with a monetary demand.
Denouncing the murder, Khangabok residents came to the street and blocked NH 102 on Sunday around 4 pm.
Protestors held placards with slogans like 'Don't try to create enmity in the community in such crucial moment of the state', 'do not compare money with human lives', 'Stop accusing victims', etc.
A JAC was formed and several resolutions were adopted which include demand for ap propriate legal action against the culprits and stern action by the government to prevent such ransom related crimes.
They also resolved not to claim the body until the perpetrators are arrested but intensify their agitation if their demands are not met at the earliest.
The JAC further resolved to ban the armed group in Khangabok.
Later, the protestors marched up to the office of SP Thoubal and submitted a memorandum containing the demands.
They continued their road block after returning from the SP's office.
Talking to the media, victim's wife Thokchom Kim informed that after her husband's abduction, the captors called her on the phone and made her to listen them torturing her husband.
They demanded ransom money of Rs 90 lakh.
She fold them that her husband has a health condition and begged them to stop torturing him while saying that the family was arranging the ransom.
The kidnappers also threatened to kill all the family members if they report the matter to police, she disclosed.
